Collaborative work during Tbilisi Architecture Biennial
2019
The collapse of the Soviet Union was followed by the privatization of the state-owned property. At that time, change of ownership status of the factories and land was accompanied by privatizing such spaces, which were public by many. Among them were the parks, natural reserves, schools, and inner yards of the residential blocks.
The project team analyzed public spaces we deal with on an everyday basis and found out that most of them are subject to private ownership. Therefore, members of society are deprived of the possibili- ty to exercise any influence or have any access to them. This fact inspired them to create an installation depicting a nonfunctional, inaccessible playground - the first public space where a child establishes communication with the others and starts to draw a line between the public and private areas.
The installation which is located on the rooftop of the Rustaveli metro station, which is also private property is a paradox like many of the public places of Tbilisi as it is impossible to get close to the play- ground and enjoy it.
